Application of the Concept
The growth increment tree height ratio could be used as an indicator of tree establishment and performance for trees 5-10 years old. In order to demonstrate how this might work a boxplot (Figure 8) was developed for tree sample data from white spruce from the lower foothills. The 25th percentile was calculated from the boxplot and could be used as a measure of establishment and growth potential for young planted seedlings. The 25th percentile is shown in Figure 9. This limit would become a minimum value for leader height tree height ratios of planted seedlings.
